My name is James. I was homeless for 4 years and addicted to drugs. While homeless, I suffered a brain aneurysm where my journey of health challenges and healing also began. The aneurysm was a blessing in disguise. I realize now, God allowed this to happen knowing, I would meet some people along the way who would help me get out of drugs and homelessness. I have changed so much since then but still a work in progress. A state social worker helped me find stable housing through the Assisted Living Waiver Program. When I first came into the assisted living in 2019 I had a helmet and depended on a wheelchair. I was assisted by my home administrator Rico, to all my physical therapy sessions and slowly I got stronger and back to walking. My best friend Taylor became my assistant to help me reach some of my goals. Some of the other goals I’ve met are: I’m back in my daughter’s life, I’ve upgraded my military discharge, I’ve grown very close to Jesus. Since my baptism in 2020, I’ve shared my faith with others. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my past but I’ve learned to forgive myself and work hard to keep getting better. I pray to have a chance to heal with the people I’ve hurt in the past, mainly my family. I’m thankful to my family at Care Ayesha, who help me everyday in so many ways. We have enjoyed so many memorable experiences filled with laughter and learning. Spending time with my daughter is the best part of my life. Her future and being in her life is what is most important to me and Jesus. I love going to church because I learn so much and I love all my adventures with the friends who I met through Up N Out Social. There are too many good people God placed in my life. They know who they are. I was a lost soul and God saved me. God gets all the glory and I give Him my love and gratitude for what He has done in my life. I am a living testimony of God’s grace, forgiveness, and mercy. - James
