My name is James Votaw and I’m a Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor. I suffered my brain  injury in 2016. Through the help of my state social worker back then she was able to help me get into the California Assisted Living Waiver Program because I could no longer live on my own after my accident. During my recovery, I met Marian Mejia Alvarez and Dr. Daniel Ignacio, with the nonprofit Up N Out Social Club of America. Through the help of Up N Out’s neuro rehabilitation program and other TBI support groups such as St Jude Brain Injury Network, Jodi House, my friends from the Up N Out Community and from my Christian Church, I am now able to live independently again. I’m now in my own apartment and I live with my nephew. It’s still an on going journey of progressive healing and I’m thankful to God that through His help, I’ve come a long way. Thank you to everyone in my journey for all your support. Your help has given me a new perspective and hope for my life and future.
